Sexual harassment isn't about being chased around the desk anymore.
It's about flirtation, subtle power plays, retaliation and, of course, text messages.

Here are some Dos And Don'ts for the 'New' Sexual Harassment !

 

Turn Flirty into Professional

If you do receive a flirty text, turn it around on the sender! If a superior texts something like, "You looked pretty in that dress today,"
respond with, "The meeting went well. Thanks for your professional leadership." You want to acknowledge
that you received the text, and at the same time show that you will not engage in personal matters.

 

Say It If You Must, But Don't Type It

"Nice haircut" ... "You look great today"… Bowman advises keeping compliments clear, and saying them in person,
when your tone and body language can be read. "It's OK to give someone a respectful compliment, without the
'Ohhh, baby' body language." As for e-mailing and texting, he adds: "Anything you write down, assume that
it is going to live forever, and that if you find yourself in litigation, these things can be dug up."

 

 

Noon OK, Midnight ... Not so much

Watch your timing. E-mailing something to a coworker like, "You really took the reins at the meeting today,"
might be flattering in the right context--sent right after the meeting, from the office e-mail.
But doing it at home, from your personal account, at 3 a.m., is just asking for trouble.

 

 

Watch Your Posts

With social-networking sites all the rage, and networking via these sites not only more common, but even encouraged by employers,
you need to be more careful than ever about what you write: "Don't put anything on a social- networking site that
you wouldn't want children, your grandmother and three reporters to see."

 

Date Outside of the Office

While most companies do not have policies forbidding employees from dating each other, experts agree that it's just a bad idea,
especially if one employee is superior to the other. Says Bowman: "Especially for people who live in big cities,
there are millions of people just outside your building. Date one of them instead."
