So what will you be driving in 2011? A look ahead at the cars coming in the future…
Honda Brio
After showcasing its small concept car at the 2010 Auto Expo, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. (HSCI) is planning to bring its entry level compact car "Brio" in India. The ‘Brio' or ‘energetic' in Italian comes with a 1.2 litre small engine and is claimed to be a highly fuel efficient car. The Brio, which is an attempt by Honda to enter a segment dominated by Maruti Suzuki Swift, is likely to priced at around Rs. 5 lakh.
Toyota Etios Liva
Japanese carmaker Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) plans to launch Etios hatchback called the ‘Liva' by April 2011 to strengthen its position in India. Etios Liva will be built on the same platform as the Etios and its pricing will be decided after the Union Budget. The Liva will have a 1.2 litre petrol engine. Etios Liva will take on cars like Maruti Swift, A Star, Ritz, Estilo and Hyundia i10. TKM had launched its entry-level sedan (Toyota Etios) in India on December 1, 2010.
Nissan Micra diesel
Japanese automaker Nissan recently launched the diesel version of Nissan Micra. It's priced at Rs. 5.58 lakh for the XV and Rs. 6.04 lakh for the XV Premium. Equipped with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder 8 valve engine from sister company Renault, the Micra manages to produce 64 hp and 160 Nm of torque. For its diesel variant, Nissan claims a mileage of 23 kmpl.
Honda Accord diesel
The Honda Accord is one of the quietest sedans in its class and is among the most popular luxury cars in India. Honda Accord's diesel version is not much different from its petrol option in terms of looks. The new Honda Accord diesel comes with 2000 cc diesel engine that delivers 150 bhp of sheer power. Honda Accord will compete against Skoda Superb Diesel, the Mercedes C-Class, BMW 3-series and the VW Passat.
Volkswagen Jetta
German car manufacturer Volkswagen will launch an all new Jetta by March 2011. The new Jetta is expected in a 1.4 TSI petrol and 1.6 TDI diesel engine options. The car still shares its platform with the Golf, but it will have a whole new different look in terms of outstretched dimension and the longer wheelbase. It will come in a price range of 16-18 lakh and will take on sedans like the Honda Civic, Skoda Laura, Chevrolet Cruze and the Toyota Corolla Altis.
Fiat Bravo
Fiat Bravo is expected to be a strong contender in the prestigious segment of medium hatchbacks. Bravo's sleek styling and comfortable interiors are inspired by the Italian tradition. It's a luxurious hatchback whose 1.9 litre multijet engine will deliver power of 150 bhp at 4000 rpm and a peak torque of 305 nm at 2000 rpm.
Chevrolet Spark Electric
The electric version of the Chevrolet Spark generated a lot of interest when it was unveiled at the 2010 Indian Auto Expo. The Chevrolet Spark Electric features a battery powered electric motor developed jointly by General Motors India and Reva Electric India. The model is likely to sport a price tag of Rs. 7 Lakh, making it more than twice as expensive as it's petrol version.
Maruti Suzuki SX4 Diesel
Maruti Suzuki India, the largest passenger car seller in India, is expected to launch all new SX4 diesel car in mid 2011. The diesel version of SX4 will have the same design, style and exterior but a different engine. The SX4 diesel will now compete with other diesel sedans in the segment such as the Fiat Linea, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Verna, Chevrolet Optra and the newly launched Volkswagen Vento.
Nissan Sunny
Japanese car maker Nissan's Indian subsidiary, Nissan India, is planning to launch an entry level sedan called model Sunny in mid-2011 at around Rs. 7 lakh price range. The new Nissan Sunny is anticipated to come in two variants in India – 1.5 litre four- cylinder powering 100bhp and 1.5 diesel engine. Nissan Sunny is expected to take on the best selling Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the Tata Indigo CS.
Honda CR-V diesel
Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) is expected to launch the diesel version of its popular SUV model CR-V in India. HSCI, an arm of Honda Motor Corporation, Japan, says it will utilize the engine in its Honda CR-V to augment sale and compete in the current market
BMW X1
German luxury automaker BMW will launch its brand new sports utility vehicle (SUV), X1 in India in diesel and petrol variants. The petrol version will have a 1.8L engine and the diesel version offers a 2.0L diesel engine. BMW X1 is expected to be priced at around Rs. 22 lakh which will make it the lowest priced car in company's portfolio in the country. The BMW X1 will compete against Toyota Fortuner, Honda CR-V, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva and Mitsubishi Outlander.
Chevrolet Beat diesel
General Motors is planning to introduce the diesel variant of its popular small car Chevrolet Beat in the first quarter of 2011. The new variant is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder derivative of the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine from FIAT.
Volkswagen Touareg
German car manufacturer Volkswagen is set to its new Sports Utility Vehicle, Volkswagen Touareg 2011 in India. Available in petrol and diesel engines, Touareg is much lighter than the earlier model. The model has wider sitting bumper and with appealing exterior. The company claims Touareg 2011 will be 20 per cent more fuel efficient than its earlier model.
Renault Fluence
The Renault Fluence is a compact mid-size sedan produced by the French automaker Renault. The car gets its power from an all-aluminum Nissan 16-valve, four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine. Apart from sporting elegant exterior, Renault Fluence features a comfortable cabin and useful technological aids. Renault Fluence targets customers looking for a status-enhancing saloon.
Skoda Laura RS
Premium automobile manufacturer SkodaAuto India plans to launch the powerful Laura RS in India after it showcased the car at the 2010 Delhi Auto Expo. Skoda Laura RS will comes with a 2.0-litre turbo-charged petrol engine that delivers power of 200 bhp. The Laura RS builds on the sporty virtues of the brand, which are reflected in the deliberately dynamic design. At the same time, the RS captivates with typical Laura strengths: suitability for everyday and family use, economy and spaciousness.

Nissan NV200
Nissan plans to launch in India its multi-utility vehicle – the NV200, which replaced the old Nissan Vanette internationally. The NV200 will be available in petrol as well as diesel options. The new Nissan NV200 is powered by a 1500 cc diesel engine of the Renault Logan and will compete against Toyota Avanza, the low-end model of Toyota.
