Charity doesn't always have to be behind closed doors. The desire to help others is a noble feeling and when it's a celebrity who is extending a helping hand; it draws huge attention from millions around the world. Few days ago, Hollywood sensation Lindsay Lohan visited Kolkata to shoot a BBC documentary on child trafficking. Lindsay is one among such good-hearted celebrities who lend their heart and hand to fellow human beings. Let's take a look at the other 'Celebrity Samaritans' Lindsay Lohan Reports say LiLo was moved to tears when she listened to the plight of a 12-year-old girl at a shelter home who had been rescued by the police . LiLo even expressed her desire to remain in touch with the girl. She always finds time for charity despite her busy schedule. Together with Brad Pitt, she has donated millions for charity. Unlike many celebs, she is actively participates in field work, taking it to a more political level. Jolie has also adopted three little kids from impoverished countries, providing them a new hope and life. Madonna Pop diva Madonna can be compared to Angelina Jolie when it comes to charity. Like Angie, lady Madge too has been actively involved in humanitarian works in the African continent. She adopted a boy named David Banda and a girl named Mercy from Malawi. Madonna also runs a charitable trust named 'Raising Malawi', the helps feed, educate and provide medical care for Malawi's orphans. Her toyboy lover Jesus Luz too is into charity. Whatever his motive, his donations for charity will benefit the needy. Drew Barrymore Dimpled actress Drew Barrymore shot to fame more for her 'Bare-more' Playboy covers and blatant remarks. But she has used her fame and money for many philanthropic activities. She was named 'Ambassador against Hunger' for the United Nations World Food Programme for which she had donated $1 million. There is one famous poster of her distributing food to children that says "My dream is that no child should go to school hungry". As Drew has got a huge fan following, her kind gesture is generating a buzz around the world. Scarlett Johansson The sweet and sexy Scarlett Johansson is a global Ambassador for Oxfam. She was even associated with 'Soles4Souls', an international shoe charity dedicated to providing a free pair of shoes to people in need. She visited Rwanda to support charity works for the uplift of women and children. Scarlett says she felt more human and real as she interacted with those poor women there... something really different from the pseudo world of Hollywood. George Clooney He is one of Hollywood's most desirable bachelors. But what makes Clooney a total man is not just his looks, but the goodness of his heart as well. He is actively involved in resolving the Darfur crisis for which he was listed among TIME magazine's 100 most influential people of the world. He and his father travelled to Darfur and filmed a documentary, "A Journey to Darfur", highlighting the plight of the people there. For his humanitarian activities, he was awarded Summit Peace Award by the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates. Though he wasn't able to eliminate the crisis of Darfur, his efforts have indeed helped a lot to ease the situation there. Bono When Bono sang "Do They Know it's Christmas?/Feed the World", he moved millions to tears. Bono can be regarded the singing seraphim who has dedicated his life to music and philanthropic activities. He has raised millions for the betterment of the poor and downtrodden people around the world. Bono is often regarded as a messenger of peace who campaigns for third-world debt relief and against embargoes. Product Red is an initiative by Bono to raise money to fight AIDS. Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, together with designer Rogan Gregory has launched a fashion line EDUN which focuses on investing in African nations, thereby providing employment opportunities for the poor. He was nominated for Nobel Peace prize three times. Salman Khan There exists a good heart inside bad boy Salman. Though he is often labeled as arrogant for his brash behaviour, Sallu Bhai is like Munna Bhai when it comes to charity. Salman has been actively involved with Make-A-Wish Foundation which deals with terminally ill children. Though he is rude with the press, Salman gets along well with the children and when he is with them, we see a totally different side of him. As part of the Indian Couture Week fashion show, Salman unveiled collections on behalf of his 'Being Human' foundation featuring Bollywood celebrities. As the saying goes "There is water underneath the rock"...and very true when it comes to Salman Khan. Katrina Kaif Katrina supports her mother Susanna's orphanage, Mercy Home located in Chennai. Kat often auctions her belongings to raise money to support her mother's noble endeavour. If it's Kat out there proclaiming about charity, there will be many followers for sure. Sushmita Sen Sushmita is the epitome of the saying, 'Charity begins at home'. Regarded by many as a strong women, this iron butterfly is an embodiment of real femininity that possess both outer and inner beauty showing great sense of courage and strength. As an 18-year-old contesting at the Miss Universe many years back, Sushmita proclaimed to the world that she would help raise money for the cause of orphans. Many years later, she kept her promise by adopting a baby girl. Sush's commitment to uplift of sex workers in India, earned her praise from Hollywood star Ashley Judd. Priety Zinta She has got a 100 watt smile and bubbly personality. Priety Zinta is into active humanitarian work by promoting awareness on AIDS, female feticide and championing the cause of women's rights. She has raised money to help victims of earth quake. She is also involved with United Nations in abolishing human trafficking in India.
