Remembering Shaheed Bhagat Singh On 23rd March
It's on this day in the year 1931, the young trio of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shivram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar were hanged to death by the British Government in Lahore.
Their Martyrdom proved to be one of the important turning point in the 'Indian Freedom Struggle' and the entire Youth generation started looking upto the active participation in the fight for Independence.
Bhagat Singh, the most charismatic and with a Lion's heart was involved in the Revolutionary activities from a very early age and was associated with Ghadar party in Punjab and afterwards formed Hindustan Nau Jawan Sabha and later to become an active member of Hindustan Socialist Republic Association.
When Lala Lajpat Rai opposed the Simon Commission, he was badly beaten by the British and Bhagat Singh and team avenged his death by killing (though mistaken identity), J P Saunders, D.S.P in place of the Police Suptd Scott.
The famous incidence of throwing a Bomb in the Assembly, to make their voice heard in the corridors of British power, the famous trial, the singing of Mera Rang de Basantee Chola and coining the term 'Inquilaab Zindabaad' even today fills one with such pride and courage… No wonder these men are still looked upon as 'Youth Icons' and 'Great Revolutionaries..
Let's therefore remember them patriotically on this day of 23rd March today and try and adapt some of the principles for which they stood !!
The teachings, slogans, thoughts which these great martyrs have given to the people of India are still remembered and are relevant even today as they were earlier.
